| 09.30 | The 160 km journey to Kanchanaburi Visit Jeath War Museum, the museum itself is replica bamboo huts used to house the Allied POWs during the World War II. The long huts contain: various photographs taken during the war, drawings and painting by POWs, maps, weapons and other war memorabilia. The acronym JEATH represents the fated meeting of Japan, England, Australia / America, Thailand and Holland of Kanchanaburi during World War II. Then we visit the Allied War Cemetery. The Cemetery is the main POW cemetery associated with victims of the Burma Railway. 6,982 POWs are buried there, mostly Australian, British and Dutch. Take a walk to The Bridge over the River Kwai. This internationally famous (thanks to the various films and books), bridge was brought from Java by the Japanese Army and reassembled under Japanese supervision by Allied prisoners of war. Labeled as part of the ’Death Railway’ linking Thailand with Myanmar. Still in use today, the bridge was the target of frequent Allied bombing raids during 1945, and was rebuilt after the war ended. |
| 11.30 | Take a train ride along part of the “Death Railway” to Tom-Ka-Se station, the existing train station of the Thailand-Burma railway in Thailand, passing the dangerous looking wooden viaduct built along the mountain. |
